This was the sign that greeted us (my friends Charissa, Robin, & I) as we entered the Meet & Greet for Heather B. Armstrong (Dooce!) and her husband, Jon. It features her dog Chuck (short for "Congressman Henry 'Buck' Chucklesworth Hamilton Armstrong.") Heather has been one of my favorite bloggers for the last few years and I was just thrilled for the chance to meet her.
I wrote a little about my excitement leading up to this event here. It was tricky explaining to people who I was going to meet. A blog celebrity? Robin said told people she was going to meet one of her favorite writers. Perfect!
To be honest, all three of us were a little nervous walking into the Key Club on Sunset Boulevard. And then we found out that it was being filmed for use in a future project. At that point we started coming up with talking points and debating who would cover which topic. Yes, we are cyber-nerds.
The funniest moment in line was when Robin accidentally knocked over the Chuck sign while we were
taking pictures by it. Nothing like making a grand entrance! While we were there, it was mostly women in their 20's and 30's in the line, with a few men sprinkled in. A few had come bearing gifts. Now why didn't I think of that? I was especially impressed with the people who'd thought to bring business cards. Niiiice.
Robin broke the ice by joking about how awkward the situation was and then we talked about everythinug from religion to politics to indie music in less than 10 minutes. They're the kind of couple that you meet and immediately wish you were their friends. They came across as funny, down to earth, and just cool. And their blogs are what I would love for mine to be like some day!
