"I do not think of all the misery, but of the glory that remains. Go outside into the fields, nature and the sun, go out and seek happiness in yourself and in God. Think of the beauty that again and again discharges itself within and without you and be happy." (Anne Frank)
"He is a wise man who does not grieve for the things which he has not, but rejoices for those which he has." (Epictetus)

On a recent flight, I was reading American Way magazine (Nov. 15th edition) and came across a wonderful interview with Maya Angelou. Here are some of her powerful and inspiring words on gratefulness:
"I'm grateful. I am truly grateful. I'm grateful for being here, for being able to think, for being able to see, for being able to taste, for appreciating love-for knowing that it exists in a world so rife with vulgarity, with brutality and violence, and yet love exists. I'm grateful to know it exists in me, and I'm able to share it with so many people."
And one more quote from Angelou: "In the midst of hard times, you have to say 'I know this will not last forever.' No matter how bad it gets, I'm always grateful to know that I don't have to stay with the negative. I don't have to continue in this climate of cynicism. I may not see the light at the end of the tunnel, but I know there is one."
