I like to go to the gym, but I can do without the muscle parade. You can lift just as much and run just as fast with loose-fitting shorts and t-shirts as with spandex. Now, you might say, what about the level of comfort? the issue of chafing? putting out the vibe? All valid points, to a degree. But if I'm going to sweat copious amounts at the gym, the last thing I feel like looking at is Suzy Step Class in her hot pink lycra with matching accessories and shoes, full make-up, and hair curled and pulled back in a loose ponytail. If you spend more time primping before the gym than working out, you might have a problem.
Don't even get me started on the guys wearing "muscle tees" made from old shirts with as much material cut off them as possible, leaving the collar, some material around the waist, and little in between. Give me a break. What's that? It gets hot in the gym and you're just trying to cool off? Yeah right. And you oiled up your biceps to moisturize your skin. I'm not buying it.
Now, don't get me wrong. I understand some people go to the gym for the eye candy. Let's be honest, some of you go the gym to be the eye candy. But whatever happened to working out in whatever shirt and shorts you grabbed from the drawer and leaving the house without flexing in front of every mirror in the house? Sure, it can be motivating to exercise in some new workout gear. But when did the weight room turn into the runway?
